Tonight, enjoy a hearty dinner and rest well; tomorrow begins your journey into the wild heart of Kilimanjaro.
After breakfast, drive approximately 2–3 hours to Lemosho Gate, where you’ll complete registration and meet your trekking crew. Begin your journey through dense rainforest, listening to the chatter of colobus monkeys and exotic bird calls. The path winds along moss-covered trees, giant ferns, and waterfalls, offering a true sense of wilderness. Arrive at Big Tree Camp in the afternoon, set up your tent, and enjoy dinner under the stars.
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Ascend gradually, leaving the rainforest behind and entering open moorlands, home to giant heathers, lobelias, and protea trees. Enjoy panoramic views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks as you trek across scenic slopes. Your guides will teach you about the local flora and fauna, pointing out unique plants and occasional wildlife. Arrive at Shira 1 Camp by mid-afternoon, giving you time to rest, hydrate, and admire the sunset over the Shira Plateau.
Trekking Time: 5–6 hours
Today’s trek is a gentle, scenic walk across the Shira Plateau, a vast, high-altitude plateau dotted with dramatic rock formations and panoramic views. The plateau feels isolated and serene, offering an incredible sense of achievement with every step. Stop for photographs and enjoy tea breaks while taking in the distant ice fields on Kibo Peak. Reach Shira 2 Camp, where tents are pitched on soft ground with sweeping views of the surrounding peaks. This camp is an excellent spot for early acclimatization.
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Begin the day with a gradual ascent toward Lava Tower, a spectacular volcanic rock formation rising sharply from the plateau. This section challenges your body while allowing gradual acclimatization to higher altitudes. Pause for photographs and short breaks to enjoy the panoramic views. After summiting Lava Tower, descend to Barranco Camp, located at the base of the iconic Barranco Wall. Explore the area briefly, admire the rock formations, and prepare for tomorrow’s climb up the Wall.
Trekking Time: 6–7 hours
Today begins with the thrilling Barranco Wall climb, a steep but manageable ascent with support from your guides. Once over the Wall, descend into Karanga Valley, where spectacular landscapes stretch as far as the eye can see. The trail then climbs gradually toward Barafu Hut, the base camp for your summit attempt. Arrive by late afternoon, enjoy a hot meal, rest, and prepare for the midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak. Hydrate well and get an early sleep for the big climb.
Trekking Time: 5–6 hours
Start your summit climb around midnight with headlamps guiding your way. Trek through the alpine desert, passing Stella Point (5,756 m) before reaching the pinnacle of Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) for sunrise. Celebrate your achievement with photos and the unmatched views across Tanzania and Kenya. Begin your descent carefully, stopping for lunch at Barafu Hut, then continue down to Mweka Camp, surrounded by forest and rivers.
Trekking Time: 12–14 hours
Descend through the lush rainforest, listening to birdsong and spotting occasional monkeys. Arrive at Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your official Kilimanjaro summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for a well-earned shower, celebratory lunch, and farewell with your guides.
