Serengeti National Park

WELCOME TO

Serengeti National Park

Spanning nearly 15,000 square kilometers of endless plains, Serengeti National Park is Tanzania’s oldest and most iconic wildlife sanctuary. Established in 1951 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is renowned for hosting the Great Migration—one of the most spectacular natural events on Earth, where over a million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles journey in a continuous cycle of life and survival. What defines the Serengeti is its profound sense of space, raw wilderness, and the timeless interaction between predator and prey played out across its vast grasslands, savannahs, and riverine forests.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The best time to visit the Serengeti is dictated by the rhythm of the Great Migration, though the park offers incredible wildlife viewing year-round. Each season paints the landscape differently and shifts the concentration of animals.
December to March: The calving season in the southern Serengeti and Ndutu area. Vast herds gather, and predator action is high. This is also a period of green, lush scenery.
June to October: The dry season. Excellent for general game viewing as animals cluster around permanent water sources. This period features the dramatic river crossings of the Migration in the Mara and Grumeti regions.

ICONIC WILDLIFE

The Serengeti is the stage for the renowned “Big Five”—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and black rhino (though rhinos are rare and closely protected). Its true iconic spectacle, however, is the Great Migration, involving millions of herbivores. Vast prides of lions, cheetahs on the open plains, spotted hyenas, giraffes, and immense herds of elephants are commonly seen. The park is also a haven for over 500 bird species, from the large ostrich and kori bustard to vibrant rollers and eagles.

EXPERIENCE & ACTIVITIES

Beyond classic day and night game drives, the Serengeti offers unique experiences. A hot air balloon safari at dawn provides a breathtaking aerial view of the plains and wildlife. Guided walking safaris offer an intimate, ground-level perspective of the ecosystem. Cultural visits to a Maasai village or an Olduvai Gorge museum tour add deep historical and anthropological context. Specialized photographic safaris and seasonal wildlife seminars led by expert guides can also be arranged for a more immersive journey.
